One example of a builder who in later years changes his city directory listing to architect is Hibberd Yarnall, partner in the firm of builders and architects, Yarnall & Cooper with Joseph Cooper. In the Philadelphia city directories for 1857 to 1879 Yarnell & Cooper are listed as builders and carpenters; but from 1880 to 1889, they become architects and builders. After Hibberd Yarnell's death, Albert E. Yarnall succeeded to the business and in 1890, after the death of Cooper, took as his partner an architect trained at the University of Pennsylvania, William D. Goforth. With this change in partners came the name Yarnall & Goforth. Yarnall was born in Edgemont, Delaware County, PA, son of Alban and Philena Yarnall. He married Mary Ashbridge Rhoads on November 19, 1862 in Philadelphia.
