Born in Hempstead, Long Island, NY, the son of Valentine and Susanna Ketcham, O. W. Ketcham studied art and architectural drawing at Pratt Institute in New York. In 1887 he began working with the Boston Terra Cotta Company; and in 1895 when that company dissolved, he launched his own firm specializing in architectural terra cotta. In Crum Lynne, PA, he would establish a prominent architectural terra cotta manufacturing plant which supplied much of the terra cotta used on Philadelphia buildings in the early twentieth century.
In 1918 Ketcham served as president of the Master Builders Exchange.
